The prevalence of hidradenitis suppurativa is estimated at 0.7 % of the European population.

It occurs most often after puberty and affects women predominantly (sex ratio: 3:1).

Approximately a third of patients report a family history of HS.

The proportion of manifestations in terms of severity (moderate to severe) in the general population is not known.

The delay to diagnosis (approximately 8 years) is long, owing possibly to medical professionals’ insufficient knowledge of this affliction.
